Donghua University, founded in 1951 as East China Textile Institute of Technology, is the first textile institution of higher learning in New China。In 1960, it was designated as a national key university by the Ministry of Education, and was one of the first universities in China with the right to grant doctoral, master's and bachelor's degrees。In 1995, it entered the national "211 Project" key construction ranks。In 1999, it was renamed Donghua University。
